“The heavens declare the glory of God; the firmament proclaims the work of His hands.”
Psalm 19:2
Heaven. One word, many meanings.
In this Psalm, the heavens above us reveal the greatness of the Creator. The sky, stars and beauty of creation speak without words, reminding us of something greater than ourselves.
But what if we also look at heaven as a metaphor?
Heaven can represent the spiritual, the sacred, and the light we seek within ourselves. Although the Psalm speaks literally of the heavens, its message can inspire us to turn inward, quiet our minds and explore what lives in our hearts.
As an artist, I see a connection between creation and creativity. Through colour, images, movement and sound, we can express what words cannot. Creating with love allows us to share the beauty and goodness we carry within.
Perhaps we can look in two directions: towards the heavens above us, marvelling at creation, and towards our hearts, reflecting on what we wish to bring into the world.
Heaven above us. Heaven as a metaphor within us. The heart as a space where we search for meaning, love and light.
Sometimes, all it takes is looking at the same word from a different perspective.
