The Tree Flow series expands on the idea that life is not composed of separate beings, but of interconnected systems in constant exchange. Drawing inspiration from the concept of the “Wood Wide Web”—the underground mycelial networks through which trees communicate, share nutrients, and warn one another—the works translate this hidden language into a visible, energetic form.

Rather than illustrating trees as static objects, Tree Flow presents them as living conduits of movement, breath, and information. Layers of spray paint create currents and rhythms that echo roots, veins, and neural pathways, blurring the distinction between human and non-human bodies. The tree becomes a mirror: its branching systems reflect our own circulatory, emotional, and bio-energetic flows.

The works are conceived as part of a site-specific installation, responding directly to their architectural and environmental context. Installed in relation to space, light, and the movement of the viewer, the paintings function not as isolated objects but as an immersive field. Their elongated scale encourages bodily engagement, inviting the viewer to walk alongside the work and experience flow as a spatial and temporal phenomenon.

This installation invites a sensory experience rather than a fixed narrative. The viewer becomes part of the network—moving, breathing, and sensing connection rather than observing representation. Nature here is not distant or symbolic, but present and relational.

Tree Flow ultimately proposes a quiet reorientation: to remember that communication, care, and balance are fundamental laws of life, already practiced by forests beneath our feet. Through this site-responsive work, Biela positions painting as a bridge—between science and intuition, body and landscape, and between humans and the living world to which they inherently belong.
