It can be tempting to turn the page and walk away. It takes faith to let love write the next chapter.
“Repay no one evil for evil.” — Romans 12:17
This morning, I randomly pulled a Bible quote: Romans 12:17. I then asked God for an explanation and pulled the Book of Job.
“Why hast thou set me as a mark against thee, so that I am a burden to myself?” — Job 7:20 (KJV)
Later, I came across an Instagram post featuring Banksy’s billboard saying, “Sorry, the lifestyle you ordered is currently out of stock,” paired with the song “Turn the Page” by The White Stripes.
And I started putting it all together.
Sometimes, a message appears at just the right moment. A Bible quote, another passage from Scripture, a billboard, a song — seemingly unrelated things begin to speak the same language. Is it synchronicity? A coincidence? Or an invitation to stop, reflect, and look at things from a different perspective?
Job’s words express the pain of feeling burdened by suffering and questioning why we are experiencing it. Placed alongside Romans 12:17, they invite me to reflect on how we respond when life hurts, when we feel misunderstood, or when we are tempted to turn away.
And I started thinking: What if we turned the message around?
Instead of sorry, glad.
Instead of something being out of stock, what if we recognised what has already been gifted to us?
Glad, the lifestyle God gifted you is always in stock.
Love is not something we need to order from the world. It is something we are called to live, practise, and share. Even when it is difficult. Especially when it is difficult.
Romans 12:17 reminds us not to repay evil with evil. Job reminds us that faith does not mean we never experience pain or ask difficult questions. We can bring our suffering honestly before God without allowing it to determine how we treat others.
Love is not always about turning the page and walking away. Sometimes, it takes faith to stay open to love, to forgive, to choose peace, and to refuse to become what has hurt us.
This does not mean accepting harm or abandoning our boundaries. It means choosing love without giving up our dignity.
Perhaps the real synchronicity is this: we keep searching for something that was never out of stock in the first place.
Love as a lifestyle is never out of stock.
And just as I was putting all these thoughts together, another message popped into my head as a conclusion. Something Jesus said:
“Turn the other cheek.” — Matthew 5:39
Perhaps that is where the whole reflection comes together. Not every hurt needs to be answered with another hurt. Not every chapter needs to end in anger. Sometimes, the greatest expression of faith is to choose love when the world gives us a reason not to.
From Romans, to Job, to Banksy’s billboard and “Turn the Page,” and finally to the words of Jesus — this is what I got from putting all the pieces together this morning.
Love as a lifestyle is never out of stock.
